“He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate—bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.” – Psalm 104:14-15
Many people pray for more—more provision, more opportunities, more success.
But Psalm 104:14-15 reveals a key truth about how God’s provision actually works:
👉 God provides the raw materials, but we are responsible for the cultivation.
The grassdoesn’t grow for its own sake—it’s meant to feed the cattle.
The plantsdon’t just appear randomly—they require effort to cultivate.
The wine, oil, and bread—all symbols of abundance—don’t come instantly; they must be processed and refined.
This passage teaches a powerful Kingdom principle for business and life:
Provision Always Comes in Seed Form
We often pray for breakthrough—but instead of delivering the final product, God gives us the raw materials to cultivate it ourselves.
- God provides the field—but expects us to plant the crops.
- God gives the wheat—but expects us to bake the bread.
- God gives the grapes—but expects us to press the wine.
Everything God provides requires participation.
The issue isn’t a lack of resources—it’s whether we’re stewarding what we already have.
How to Cultivate What God Has Given You
🔹 1. Identify Your “Grass, Plants, and Seeds”
Look at your business and ask:
- What skills, knowledge, or expertise do I already have that I’m not fully using?
- What connections and relationships am I underutilizing?
- What unfinished ideas have I neglected because I was waiting for the “right time”?
Just like grass grows for cattle and plants grow for food, your existing resources are meant to be used and multiplied.
Example: A consultant wanted more high-ticket clients but hadn’t leveraged past testimonials. Once she started sharing success stories, clients began seeking her out instead of her chasing them.
🔹 2. Stop Waiting for Perfect Conditions
Many people hesitate to take action because they’re waiting for everything to be just right.
- “I’ll launch my business when I have more money.”
- “I’ll raise my prices when I feel more confident.”
- “I’ll start marketing when I have the perfect website.”
But God moves when you move.
📖 “Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.” – Ecclesiastes 11:4
Example: A speaker wanted to start a podcast but kept delaying it, waiting for the right equipment and perfect branding. When she finally started with what she had, opportunities for paid speaking engagements doubled within six months.
🔹 3. Turn Raw Materials into Revenue
God provides resources, but you must turn them into results.
- Raw Material: A strong personal network → Cultivated Resource: Leverage referrals to grow your business
- Raw Material: Industry expertise → Cultivated Resource: Package it into coaching or consulting services
- Raw Material: A great idea → Cultivated Resource: Test it and turn it into a profitable product
📖 “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” – Proverbs 21:5
Example: A business coach spent years giving free advice in Facebook groups. Once she packaged that knowledge into a paid course, she turned free insights into a six-figure business.
🔹 4. Recognize the Timing of Your Harvest
Psalm 104:15 highlights three results of cultivated provision:
1️⃣ Wine that gladdens hearts– Joy and fulfillment
2️⃣ Oil to make faces shine– Favor and recognition
3️⃣ Bread that sustains hearts – Stability and long-term provision
Each one represents a different season of growth.
- Wine takes time to ferment – Some ideas need to develop before they can be profitable.
- Oil is pressed from olives – Favor often comes through pressure and perseverance.
- Bread requires daily nourishment – Some businesses need consistent work to sustain momentum.
Example: A service-based entrepreneur was discouraged because she wasn’t seeing fast growth. When she realized that wine, oil, and bread all come at different times, she stopped comparing herself to others and stayed faithful to her process—leading to a breakthrough in year three.
Are You Stewarding the Seed or Just Waiting for the Harvest?
If you’ve been praying for increase, take a step back and ask:
✔ What has God already placed in my hands?
✔ Am I taking action, or just waiting for conditions to be perfect?
✔ Am I turning raw resources into something valuable?
Because when you steward the seed well, the harvest is inevitable.
