7 Things to Remember When Delegating Instructions 📝

Delegation is a skill that requires clarity, accountability, and wisdom. Even the Bible provides guidance on wise delegation, like when Moses appointed leaders to help manage the people (Exodus 18).

Here’s a checklist for effective delegation:

1️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗵𝘆

“Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). Share the purpose behind each task. When others understand the importance, they’re more committed and motivated to follow through.

2️⃣ 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆

Accountability is key. Give each instruction to one person only to avoid confusion and ensure ownership. “Let each person be responsible for their own actions” (Galatians 6:5).

3️⃣ 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲

“But all things should be done decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40). Record the date of the instruction. Keeping things orderly helps everyone stay organized and focused.

4️⃣ 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀

Just as Paul checked on churches he founded, asking for updates ensures that tasks stay on track. Regular progress reports also provide opportunities to address issues early on.

5️⃣ 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲

Agree on a specific deadline, as “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Deadlines prevent procrastination and help maintain focus.

6️⃣ 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆

Just as Jesus appointed specific disciples for different tasks, only delegate to those capable of completing the task. “Each has received a gift, use it to serve one another” (1 Peter 4:10).

7️⃣ 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵

Never assume a task is complete without confirmation. “Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’” (Matthew 5:37). Following up ensures integrity and accountability in each task.

Effective delegation isn’t just a management tool—it’s a way to honor God’s principles of order, purpose, and stewardship.

Which of these resonates most with you?
